BODY CONTROL MODULE - BCM

A revolutionary method in wiring

A vehicle’s electronic system is wired in several areas – the vehicle’s body, engine, dashboard, battery, fuel tank and fuse box. Of these, most user interfaces are located on the BODY such as the door locks and power windows.

The wiring on the BODY can be done in two ways:

a) Hardwired relay - this is the old method of direct wiring where configuration problems arise as well as the presence of numerous individual wiring systems within it.

b) Network - a revolutionary method of wiring using a flexible network that utilises the protocols of LIN (Local Interconnect Network) and CAN (Controller Area Network). The configuration is easily changed by re-programming. The devices on this network are collectively called the Body Control Module (BCM).
